Katie grew up playing competitive sports in the beaches of Toronto, working hard support and motivate her teammates to achieve their potential, both on and off the court. She brings the same leadership, support and positivity to Physiotherapy and is always looking to help her patients achieve their goals. Katie saw her fair share of injuries, introducing her to the world of rehabilitation quite early on. Katie credits her athletic leadership roles and early introduction to rehab for igniting her passion for Physical Therapy. Katie completed her Kinesiology degree at Wilfrid Laurier University. During her time at Laurier, Katie volunteered as a student athletic trainer for the Varsity Swim team, helping to expand her knowledge of human kinetics and motor sequencing. Taking an interest in the physical health of the aging population, Katie then pursued a 2-year diploma in Gerontology at George Brown, while simultaneously working as a Physiotherapy Assistant and competing for the George Brown Varsity women’s volleyball team. Upon graduation from this program, Katie worked for 2 years as an activation therapist with the elderly population, spearheading the women’s strength training class. Katie felt as though she could create even more change by focusing her efforts on prevention, and healthy lifestyle promotion. To do this she took up another Physiotherapy Assistance job that helped to land her acceptance into Glasgow Caledonian University’s Physiotherapy Masters program. During her time in Scotland, Katie had the opportunity to experience a plethora of different Physiotherapy disciplines including, musculoskeletal, respiratory, surgical, pediatric neurorehabilitation and community and elderly rehab. It was Katie’s placement in women’s health that sparked a new passion for Pelvic Physiotherapy. Katie successfully completed her Physiotherapy Masters in Glasgow in March 2021 and went on to successfully pass her Canadian accreditation exam in November of the same year. Since then, Katie has been fully licensed as Registered Physiotherapist and eager to provide her patients with a high standard of care. To ensure this, Katie completed several Pelvic Health courses and is able help patients achieve optimal pelvic health. Over her time in patient care, Katie has come to strongly believe in educating her patients to better understand their wellness journey, as patient involvement is the key to success. Katie strives to create a safe, inclusive and non-judgemental environment and is here to help patients of all ages to achieve their movement goals. During her spare time, you can find Katie hiking with her husband and her dog, tossing a disc with her friends, picking up a game of volleyball and spending time with her family.
