TREATMENT MODALITIES

Physiotherapy

Contemporary Medical â€‹â€‹Acupuncture

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique, targeting anatomically defined neurofunctional sites in the body. These insertion sites can be stimulated manually or with electricity for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system and/or the endocrine, exocrine and immune systems. The effects occur at multiple levels in the body including the peripheral nerves, spinal cord, brainstem, brain and cerebellum and can result in significant changes in pain syndromes and functional problems.

CAMPT Manipulative Physical Therapy

CAMPT Manipulative Physical Therapy involves CAMPT-Certified physiotherapists who are Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT). These therapists have completed extensive post-graduate education and have attained internationally recognized qualifications in hands-on manipulative therapy including joint mobilization and manipulation. The treatments focus on research-guided techniques that speed up recovery and education on pathology and intervention to reduce the risk of relapse.

Neuro-Functional Corrective Exercise

Neuro-Functional Corrective Exercise begins with an assessment of mobility, muscle recruitment and function. After identifying areas of imbalance, the repetition of conscious movement and muscle activation and relaxation leads to adaptive changes in the body. Applying the correct type and quantity of load  taps into the human body's innate capacity to remodel and adapt to functional demands. Continued awareness in movement and consistent repetition of movement patterns will lead to improved neurological, cardio-vascular and muscle-skeletal health and function.

Deep Oscillation Therapy

Deep Oscillation Therapy is a unique therapeutic treatment for muscle relaxation, increased circulation, and the relief of pain and inflammation. The treatment effect is produced by a pulsating electro-static wave combined with gentle sweeping movements along lymphatic pathways. This pleasant feeling therapy is so gentle that it can be used for acute injuries and day one post-operatively, yet works equally effective for chronic and fibrotic conditions. The three phases of treatment work to dissolute lymphatic waste, reduce muscle tone, and displace that congested lymph to restore normal fluid dynamics in the body.

Soft Tissue and Fascial Therapy

Soft Tissue and Fascial Therapy techniques are a combination of fascial manipulation, therapeutic massage and active assisted stretching. These techniques involve applying precise pressure with specific stretches through multiple planes of movement to relieve tissue tension and remove fibrosis/adhesions which can develop in tissues due to repetitive use and overload of the muscle tissues. This can result in fast and permanent re-organization of scar tissue, and correct muscle length imbalances to improve mobility and function of soft tissues.

Far Infra-Red Light Therapy

Far Infra-Red Light Therapy consists of exposing bare skin in the affected area to far infrared light produced by heating a mineral lamp. Far infrared light can penetrate the body up to 4cm and provide a gentle warmth on the skin. The absorbed light enhances blood circulation, relaxes muscles and reduces pain and inflammation. This therapy can be combined with acupuncture and other modalities to maximize treatment effects.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

This gentle form of massage specifically targets lymph vessels to help promote circulation of lymphatic fluid out of a swollen limbs or areas of congestion and improve general lymphatic circulation and function around the body.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy uses an electric charge and to vibrate a small crystal to produce a piezoelectric effect and create sound waves which are transmitted into soft tissues of the body using a gel medium. These sound waves penetrate up to 5cm and can help stimulate increased circulation to tissues, decreases in swelling, improved elasticity of tissues, relief of pain and swelling, and ultimately speeding up of the healing process.
